NDIS provider reviewing Verification audit documentation

What is an NDIS Verification audit?

Verification is the audit type for lower-risk NDIS supports. If your registration groups don't include higher-risk supports like Specialist Disability Accommodation, Specialist Behaviour Support, or supports involving restrictive practices, you'll almost certainly be assigned a Verification audit.

Unlike Certification, Verification is a remote desktop review. There's no on-site visit — your auditor assesses your documentation and checks that it's complete, current, and aligned to the NDIS Practice Standards relevant to your registration groups.

Who needs a Verification audit?

If you're registering for lower-risk supports, you'll be assigned Verification via your Initial Scope of Audit from the NDIS Commission. Common supports that typically fall under Verification include plan management, support coordination, therapy supports (where no restrictive practices are involved), community participation, daily activities, and transport.

Your Initial Scope of Audit document will confirm your audit type. If it says Verification, this pack has everything you need.

Common questions about Verification

Can I upgrade from Verification to Certification later?

Yes. If you later add higher-risk registration groups, you'll need to upgrade to Certification. The ProviderPass Audit Pack covers both — so the documents you prepare for Verification are a solid starting point, with the Certification-specific items already included in the pack.

How long does a Verification audit take?

The auditor's desktop review typically takes a few days. From submitting your documentation to receiving your audit report, most providers experience a 2–6 week turnaround depending on auditor availability.

What happens during a Verification audit?

Your auditor reviews your submitted documents against the NDIS Practice Standards relevant to your registration groups. They may ask follow-up questions or request additional evidence. There's no on-site visit for Verification.

Do I need a consultant for a Verification audit?

Not usually. Verification is the more straightforward of the two audit types, and most providers can handle it themselves with the right documentation pack. A consultant makes sense if your operations are complex or you're applying for multiple registration groups.

What if my auditor asks for something not in the pack?

Email us. We'll help you work out what's needed and whether it's already in the pack under a different name. Tailoring questions are free — we don't charge for support.

Is the pack suitable for sole traders?

Yes. Sole traders are the most common Verification provider type. The pack includes tailoring guidance for sole traders, small companies, charities, and not-for-profits.
